January Chapter Meeting:
2015 Construction Forecast

The construction industry is moving towards a more broad-based expansion, although the progress has at times been uneven as the prospects by individual sectors have varied. Multifamily housing continues to strengthen, yet the early months of 2014 have seen a pause for single family housing from earlier growth.  Commercial building remains on its moderate upward track, helped by such improving market fundamentals as occupancies and rents, yet institutional building is still in the process of turning the corner after five years of decline.  While public works construction was surprisingly strong in 2013 and funding cutbacks have been less severe than initially thought, there’s uncertainty going forward regarding the passage of a new multiyear federal transportation bill.  Will the construction expansion be able to continue in 2015?  This presentation will examine the various factors affecting construction, such as emerging economic and legislative developments, in assessing the 2015 prospects for major sectors of the construction industry.
