Positioning Your Non-Profit for Success 

You want to make the world a better place, but where should you start? This workshop will explain critical steps you should take to create a well-run organization that can have the impact you seek.

This workshop is designed to provide basic information on starting a not-for-profit organization (NPO) and the initial, significant decisions and processes to get your NPO up and running.

These include:
• How to develop a vision and mission statement for your Organization,
• How to recruit a board, find funders and potential partners within the non-profit community
• How to obtain state and federal recognition for your NPO and some limitations on your organization’s activities,
• Unique aspects in financial reporting by NPO's, tax compliance and tax filing responsibilities. We will end with round table discussions where you will be able to ask the panelists any specific questions you may have.

  • Presenters: Eric Saunders retired in 2016 after a long career as a CPA in public accounting. He provided accounting, audit, tax and advisory services to numerous businesses and individuals. Eric's clients were primarily sole proprietors, real estate developers and operators, automobile dealerships and non-profit organizations. Bill Hulsey is a SCORE mentor and attorney with extensive experience managing the legal and business affairs of complex, mission driven organizations. He has particular expertise in many issues affecting non-profits, including governance, labor and employment, federally funded research, risk management and commercialization of intellectual property. Susan Schiro, Founded, ran and grew a social service Non-profit to $1M (13 paid FTEs and 200 volunteers without government funding (20 years), Independent organizational, management and individual consultant, Taught business management, organizational behavior and organization structure while doing PhD studies
