Indianapolis Chapter CSI August Meeting:  

Prevention thru Design (PtD)

Objective:  A discussion of guidelines for addressing occupational hazards and risks in design and redesign processes.

This presentation of PtD will provide highlights of the new ANSI/ASSE Z590.3-2011 standard and its implications in the Construction and Renovation processes. The seminar will cover a History of Z590.3 rulemaking, lay the foundation to the concept of PtD, discuss ways to implement PtD into the design process, some of the “tools” to use and the “barriers” that must be overcome, discussion of the “Next" Steps / Implementing PtD, available resources to use, and illustration of some notable success stories, then close out with candid discussion from the attendees.

Speaker: John Lindenschmidt, CSP, ALCM, President of RMS-Safety

John is a graduate of Purdue University and has over 27 years experience in the safety and health field. He holds a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation as well as an Associate Degree in Loss Control Management (ALCM). John is an Authorized Instructor for the 10 and 30 hour OSHA Construction Standards, as well as General Industry Standards Outreach Training Programs. He is active in numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Safety Engineers and Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety. He has held executive positions with all of these organizations. John has served as Chairman of the Board of Safety Review for the State of Indiana, Board Member of the Hoosier Safety Council, and Board Member of the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety, and is Past Commissioner of the Governor's Indiana Occupational Safety Standards Commission.
