Treating Panic Disorder Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This 4-hour ZOOM seminar will introduce advanced skills for optimizing cognitive behavior therapy for the treatment of individuals with panic disorder. The seminar will emphasize strategies to enhance learning during exposure practices for panic disorder. Attendees will be introduced to effective strategies for the management of two common types of negative cognitions in panic disorder. Clinical case examples will be provided to demonstrate learning principles.

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe common types of exposure practices for panic disorder
  • Identify tools to enhance learning during exposure practices for patients with panic disorder
  • Explain how to enhance expectation violation in panic disorder treatment
  • Use cognitive practices to promote the retention of learning in panic disorder treatment

Featuring: Lily Brown, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry and Director, Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. She specializes in cognitive-behavior therapy for anxiety disorders, including Exposure and Response prevention (EX/RP) for obsessive compulsive disorder, and has been trained in the treatment of borderline personality disorder. Her current research focuses on treatment development and implementation to mitigate suicide risk in patients with anxiety disorders and PTSD. Dr. Brown earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and Learning and Behavior Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she researched mechanisms of change in fear conditioning and extinction, with a particular focus on PTSD (in the Anxiety and Depression Research Center).

Seminar Fee:  $ 89.00

CANCELLATION POLICY:  A $10 processing fee will apply. To receive a refund, cancellations must be made in writing and received no later than one week prior to the seminar. No refunds/credits will be made after the one-week date or for no shows on the day of the program.


Continuing Education Credits:

An important message about Continuing Education Credits:  Brook Lane seminars are approved for continuing education credits as an entire event.  PARTIAL CREDIT WILL NOT BE AWARDED. To assure that you receive continuing education credit, you must be on time and complete the entire seminar.

Counselors/Therapists:  Brook Lane Health Services has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP TM) # 5452. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Brook Lane solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.  This program will provide 4 clock hours; partial credit will not be awarded.

Social Workers:  Brook Lane Health Services is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits for licensed social workers in Maryland. This program will provide 4.0 credit hours of Category I continuing education; partial credit will not be awarded.   

Psychologists:  The Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists will accept continuing education hours provided by Brook Lane, an approved CE sponsor by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.

Other Healthcare Professionals and Attendees:  A certificate of completion noting the number of educational/contact hours will be provided for other disciplines to allow attendees to apply for CE credit as an individual.
