The Library of Alexandria -The History of the Ancient and the Rebirth of the New: Webinar (05/21/15)

with Dr. Sohair F. Wastawy, Ph.D.

Dean of Libraries - Florida Institute of Technology

& Past Chief Librarian of the Library of Alexandria

The Ancient Library of Alexandria captured the imagination of the world and remains one of the greatest adventures of the human intellect. Established in 288 BC to bring together the greatest minds of the ancient world, the Library grew to become the greatest library of the age and the intellectual center of the world. Some 1600 years after its final destruction, the Library was revived again, almost exactly on the same spot, on the shores of the Mediterranean. The new Bibliotheca Alexandrina was intended, with its diverse activities, to capture the spirit of the original Ancient Library of Alexandria.

This lecture and presentation will attempt to tell the history of the ancient library and illustrates the mission and the parts that constitute the new library.

Virtual Trainer: Dr. Sohair F. Wastawy, Ph.D.

Dr. Wastawy has been Dean of Libraries at Florida Institute of Technology since October 2013.
