Conference Overview

 "Building Resiliency - Accepting Change - From Floods to Droughts" 

ARBI's 5th Annual Conference will be hosted in Brandon, Manitoba on February 20 & 21, 2019 at the Victoria Inn Hotel & Convention Centre.  The conference will address issues ranging from floods to droughts and how communities and organizations can build resliency.  We will also be offering a tour of the City of Brandon's state of the art Wastewater Treatment Facility.

Conference Keynote Speakers

Robert Sanford - EPCOR Chair for Water & Climate Security, United Nations University for Water, Environment & Health

Bob is committed to translating scientific resarch outcomes into language decision-makers can use to craft timely and meaningful public policy and to bringing international example to bear on local water issues. He is an advisor on water issues for the Interaction Council, a global public policy forum composed of more than thirty Heads of State. 

Bob is engaged with a number of univeristies in Western Canada and a member of the Forum for Leadership on Water (FLOW), a national water policy research group. He has also authored or co-authored a number of high-profiled works relating to water.

Danny Blair – Director, Prairie Climate Centre

Danny is a Professor in the Department of Geography, in the Faculty of Science at the University of Winnipeg. 

His research interests include climate change and variablity in Canada's prairie provinces, synoptic climatology, the classification of synoptic patterns, and natural hazards.

Danny is the Director of the Prairie Climate Centre. The Centre is committed to making climate change meaningful and relevant to all Canadians. 

Doug Griffiths - Community Therapist - 13 Ways

Doug addresses himself as a community therapist. In 2015 he retired from politics in Alberta where he served as a MLA for four consecutive terms during which he held various senior cabinet portfolios and junior positons.

His best selling book "13 Ways to Kill Your Community" identifies challenges and opportunities that all communities face. The first chapter deals with water and the importance it plays within a community.
