VTASCE Site Tour @ Waterbury Dam - April 29
Join us April 29, 2022 at 3 pm for a site tour of the Waterbury Dam. Ben Green, PE, will provide a site tour of the Waterbury Dam facility as a follow up to our March virtual meeting about the DEC Dam safety Program. The tour requires about 1 mile of walking, so please plan and dress accordingly if you would like to attend the event.
Slips trips and falls are the highest hazard of the tour, so please were appropriate footwear, and dress for outdoor weather. Additional PPE can be used as desired, but is not required. The majority of this event will be outside. Mask will be optional.
Please meet at the Waterbury Dam crest near the Little River Boat Launch (2792 Little River Road, Waterbury, VT 05676) around 3PM. Carpooling is encouraged, as there is limited parking at the site.
The Waterbury Reservoir supports both recreation and hydroelectric generation. The current dam conditions do not support full flood capabilities at the facility. Design and construction to improve the dam are proposed in the coming years.
Ben Green, PE, is the Section Chief of the Dam Safety Program in the Water Investment Division of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and has been in that position for five years. The Dam Safety Program has both dam safety regulation and dam ownership responsibilities. The program administers State Statute Chapter 43: Dams, regulating non-power, non-federal dams and also acts as State owner representatives/caretaker at 14 state owned dams. Prior to joining the program, Ben was a consulting engineer for 12 years in the fields of geotechnical and dam safety engineering. Ben is a Professional Engineer in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts and has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University.
