This project, which has been honored more than once by the Parks and Natural Areas Awards, is a long term planned project started in October 2006 that connects 6 subdivisions to pedestrian/bicycle access to Spring Park and Ride with a major bridge across Cypress Creek, a minor bridge, 9 trail heads, and 2.5 miles of paving.
This trail provides connectivity to three parks (HC-Mercer Botanic Gardens, Timber Lane Park and Cypress Creek Park). As part of the planning process, the project won an H-GAC award for "Best of the Best" Master Plan and in 2008 won the award for "Best Project Under $500,000 for Cypress Creek Hike and Bike Trail.
The PNA Subcommittee (of the Natural Resources Advisory Committee) serves as a forum for discussion of issues related to parks and natural areas, promotes the PNA Award Program, and maintains a regional inventory of parks. The PNA subcommittee facilitates information exchange and planning efforts between various stakeholders and collaborators to protect and preserve parks and natural areas across the region.
The PNA Subcommittee meets the second Monday of January, March, May, July, September and November and is open to anyone interested in participating.
