The Dayton Metro Library Has Lots to Shout About!

The Dayton Metro Library (DML) is in the middle of the nation’s largest library project which will give our community eleven new branches, five renovated/expanded branches, a new main library and efficiency-gaining consolidated back-office functions. As libraries across the county re-define their purpose in a community, DML is positioning itself to be a key partner to address issues of early childhood literacy, out-of-school learning, career/college attainment and workforce talent development. In this session, we’ll get updates on DML’s facilities projects, take a visual tour through some of the new buildings and their unique amenities and understand why the library will continue to be a critical community center for our region.

Speaker: Diane Farrell

Diane Farrell joined the Dayton Metro Library in October 2013 to fill the newly-created position of director, external relations and development. This role was identified after voters passed a $187 million bond levy to expand or renovate all Dayton Metro Library buildings, leading to the largest and most complex facilities project in the library’s history.

Diane’s duties include facilitating the launch of the Dayton Metro Library Foundation and leading an organizational re-branding. She oversees all marketing, promotions and fundraising activities for both the library and the library foundation. She is involved with ReImagining Works art selection for each library, facility décor and interiors, collections merchandising, system-wide signage and other internal projects to help lead the organization through its intense organizational transformation. She leads committees focused on diversity and inclusion and programming evaluation. As a member of the senior leadership team, Diane is intimately involved with key strategic partnerships, workforce development, summer enrichment and early childhood literacy.

Prior to joining the DML, Diane was vice president of external relations and development for the Dayton Society of Natural History 2005-2013, and
Cityfolk director of development from 2000 to 2005. In both roles, Diane worked to foster individual and corporate relationships, helping to strengthen each organization’s ability to deliver their missions. After college at The Ohio State University and a career in the hospitality industry, Diane returned to her native Kettering in 1993 to assume a role with the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau where she coordinated countywide efforts for large conventions and events.

Diane’s volunteer roles have included local, regional and national positions that align with her professional roles. She is a Leadership Dayton graduate and currently serves on the Board of the Muse Machine, the Montgomery County Anti-Drug Task Force and is co-chair for TEDxDayton’s 2016 Signature Event.
