PROGRAM

UNDERSTANDING RISK: DAVE ROPEIK

We live in anxious times. Safe times, compared to times past, but anxious nonetheless. Why, if we are safer and living longer, are we so worried? And what does all that worry do to our health? David Ropeik, a former TV reporter for Channel 5 in Boston, now a Harvard Instructor and author of "How Risky Is It, Really? Why Our Fears Don't Always Match the Facts", will describe what research into the psychology of risk perception tells us about why these feel like such worrisome times. He will reveal some worrisome details about what all that worry does to us as individuals and as a society. And he will offer some suggestions for what we can do to fight back against our fears.
