"Building Osteopathic
Espirit De Corps In An ACGME World"

Shawn Cannon, D.O., F.A.C.O.I.
Dr. Shawn Cannon is the Chief Academic Officer at Southampton Hospital. He started his medical studies at NYIT-College of Osteopathic Medicine, in an accelerated program. He earned his B.S. and D.O. degree in seven years. From there, he studied medicine at the University Hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center in the City of New York, where he served as chief resident in the Department of Social Internal Medicine. He is a board certified osteopathic internist with sub-specialty boards in Hospice and Pallative Medicine.
He is also an active member of the American Osteopathic Association of Addiction Medicine and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He founded the Residency Program in Social Medicine at Southampton to ensure medical students and residents were being educated in the fields of medicine that are acutely affecting citizens of the United States. Pain Management, Addiction Medicine and Palliative Care are often given minimal attention in U.S. medical students. Although opiate addiction is the number one cause of death in young Americans, it still has no requirements in general medical training programs in the United States. Change starts here, at Southampton Hospital.
