The National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) and the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) will be co-hosting a FREE, 1.5-hour online webinar.

This webinar will provide information on:

• How engineering, law enforcement, and emergency management agencies can work together to improve transportation systems management and operations and rural emergency response to work towards the goal of Towards Zero Deaths.

Webinar Outcomes

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• Understand how various data can be used to undertake a Road Safety Audit across a corridor
• Use an assortment of operations techniques and infrastructure changes to reduce crash risk

Target Audience

This training is directed towards law enforcement, planners, and engineers. Participants should have some basic familiarity with traffic systems management and operations or emergency response in rural areas.

Course Presenters

Sgt. Daniel Dytchkowskyj, Sergeant at Eric County Sheriff’s Office and Vice Chair of the Transportation Safety Advancement Group (TSAG)

• Sgt. Daniel Dytchkowskyj has been with the Erie County Sheriff's Office, Division of Police Services, since 2003, and currently serves in the Training/Accreditation Office.  For 20 years, prior to working in law enforcement, he worked in various emergency health service management positions.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Services Administration and a Master of Public Administration.  Since 2009, Sgt. Dytchkowskyj has served as a law enforcement stakeholder representative on behalf of the National Sheriffs’ Association with TSAG.

Mark Bott, Engineer of Traffic and Safety at Michigan Department of Transportation

• Mark Bott has been with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for over 27 years serving as the Engineer of Traffic and Safety managing the activities of the Traffic and Safety Area. These activities include Safety Programs, Department sign, and pavement marking programs, geometric design, and the development of standards, typicals, and guidelines pertinent to these areas. Key emphasis areas are the integration of senior mobility, pedestrian and bicyclists, and safety initiatives into everyday activities to reduce fatalities and serious injuries as part of MDOT’s Toward Zero Death activities. Mark serves as the Systems Manager of the Traffic and Safety $52 million Capital Outlay Construction Program consisting of Safety Programs, Signing, and Pavement Markings improvement categories. In addition he oversees the update and approval of the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD) and is the manager for the Logo Signing and Tourist Oriented Directional Signs (TODS) programs. Mark graduated from Michigan Technological University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering.

Stephen Brink, Southwest Region’s Traffic Safety and Operations Engineer at Michigan Department of Transportation

• Steve has been with the Michigan Department of Transportation for the past 4 years as the Southwest Region’s Traffic Safety, and Operations Engineer. Steve coordinates and administers the region’s business processes for traffic safety and intelligent transportation systems. In addition, Steve is a traffic incident management instructor and facilitates the region’s mobility performance metrics. Steve is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan and Illinois and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University.
