Any experienced PM will agree; the most important thing to know about project management is that first and foremost it is a way of thinking about projects. Drawings, specifications, charts, project management software are all means to an end: helping control projects to achieve specific goals on time, on budget, and according to performance standards. A good Project Manager has a thorough understanding of all aspects of a project including operational necessity, design and engineering, materials, specifications, timeframes, payment schedules, reporting, and problem solving. A successful project depends on the PM’s ability to create and sustain a viable partnership between the owner, the engineer, and the contractor, understanding the needs and agendas of each party while working toward a common goal.
The material discussed in this course will provide a general overview of the steps and knowledge required to oversee a project from design through construction and facility start-up.
