Excel Pivot Tables — Dissecting and Analyzing Your Data

Pivot tables give you the power to digest and analyze large quantities of data, both to produce periodic reports and uncover secrets underlying your numbers. This live, one-hour session will show you how to structure your data for analysis and build Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts.

Demonstrations and explanation will cover:

  • What Pivot Tables are and what they can do
  • How to organize data into fields and records for Pivot Table analysis
  • Building a Pivot Table from scratch
  • Ways to view the same data from different perspectives by changing a PivotTable’s structure
  • Filtering Pivot Table data
  • Pivot Table calculations
  • “Drilling Down” to reveal the data underlying a calculation
  • Creating Pivot Charts
  • Refreshing Pivot Table data and changing the data source.

There will be plenty of time for questions, so come prepared.

Presenter: Gerald Rosenthal.  You may know Gerald from his excellent Excel presentations.  He gives easy to understand and organized instruction.  He is the founder of ComputerImages, a Boston-based software training and consulting firm, and has been using Excel since the program debuted as Macintosh only software in 1985. His professional training is in law and finance, and he describes himself as essentially a low-tech person. His interest in computers focuses more on how they can help people work smarter and better, rather than their technology.
