About Men's Evening of Reflection

Each month, men from the Bay area gather around the fire pit on the terrace of Our Lady of Santa Clara Retreat Center and discuss dimension of masculine spirituality as reveled by Christ in the Gospel. A time to encounter God and self in a deeper way and building meaningful relationships.

Meet Steve Keller, Ph.D.

Steve is a Senior Scientific Director at AbbVie, developing new medicines to treat cancer, inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases, and neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.  Recently, he’s also been peripherally involved in COVID-19 drug trials and directly involved with COVID-19 diagnostic efforts at AbbVie owing to his pre-doctoral experience in viral/bacterial/fungal diagnostic research and development.  Steve has a B.S. in Physiology and a Ph.D. in Human Genetics; and has co-authored many pharmaceutical industry papers.

Steve is also a devout Catholic and Holy Family parishioner, who loves to talk about the intersection of science and faith.  He sees challenge, controversy, confusion, tension, and ultimately beautiful co-existence at that intersection and loves to talk about such topics (e.g. cloning/designer babies, stem cell research, the Shroud of Turin, etc.).  He’s given presentations to parishes, Young Catholic Professionals, Our Lady of Santa Clara Retreat Center audiences, Catholic schools, and at Theology on Tap.

Surely, Steve’s greatest accomplishment is marrying his wife of 30 years, Erin, and raising 6 children here in the land of debt consolidation and third mortgages.  He is truly blessed, a little tired, and always willing to play a game of catch.

Meet Fr. Thomas Vendetti, LC

Since his ordination to the priesthood in 2009, he has served in the New York Tristate area for four years as vice rector and director of development for the Legionaries’ center of philosophy in Thornwood, NY, as well as chaplain for Regnum Christi in Manhattan. From 2013 to 2016, Fr. Thomas was local director and chaplain for Regnum Christi in Chicago. He is currently serving in the Bay Area as director for Our Lady of Santa Clara Retreat Center and chaplain for Regnum Christi.

Fr. Thomas studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome and obtained a licentiate in philosophy and bachelors in theology. He recently completed his MA in Christian Spirituality at Fordham University in NY, focusing on the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.
