The Mayor's River Fest - Race Two
WOW! Race One was a blast. Thanks so much to our SUP Ohana for coming out and supporting the event. I can't say how proud I am to live, work and play in some of the best paddling water in the country surrounded by such great people!
We're incredibly excited to bring Stand Up Paddleboard Racing back to New Smyrna Beach. During this four race series paddlers will see a variety of different courses. The series is designed to offer courses fun and light for those new to SUP and also a slightly more difficult course for those looking to advance their skill/fitness or to keep skills sharp.
Race - Fun Flatwater March 16th, 2013
This course begins in a protected lagoon off the Intracoastal Waterway. The short course will stay in the lagoon and adjacent canal system providing for some of the most protected water possible. The Course for race two will be different from race one with a couple extra twists and turns. However, this is still a great race for those that have never participated in a SUP race.
Racers participating in the long course will also start in the protected Lagoon, but they will venture out in the Intracoastal. This five mile course will give racers a bit of everything ... up current, down current, up wind and down wind. This course is one of our regular training runs and is really fun. The five mile distance is designed to provide some challenge, but is still very doable for those that have not raced before.
Following both races will offer a free 12 and under kids race that will stay in the protect Lagoon. We want our future to start enjoying this incredible sport!
