Curriculum Design in Out-of-School Time Programming

Course Description

Course Description:

This training will focus on how to create developmentally appropriate curriculum for after school and out of school time programs. Participants will learn what makes up ASOST curriculum while developing fun, engaging, hands-on informal lessons for ASOST settings. The training will use planning materials to promote curriculum design through observation and interest-based planning techniques. The curriculum framework developed by participants will offer lessons and activities that support and enhance the MA State Curriculum Standards.


Course Objectives:
1. Gain an understanding of how to develop curriculum for afterschool and out of school time programs. 2. Begin to develop curriculum for OST youth, which is aligned with the MA Curriculum Standards.
3. Explain the importance of clear, well-developed curriculum that includes lesson objectives
4. Describe the importance of aligning OST programming to education standards and frameworks craft a meaningful curriculum statement that guides curriculum development
5. create lessons and unit plans with clear objectives, utilizing planning forms and curriculum webbing, that align with the State Standards.
