Jan Burnes"From Pirates to Profits"

Join us in celebrating 100 years of International Women's Day. The Northern Sydney Institute and Inspiring Women will join forces in bringing women together on the Northern Beaches and raise money for UNIFEM and Manly Warringah Womens Resource Centre.

Each attendee will receive a purple ribbon, a light lunch and hear from an inspirational local woman, Jan Burnes to inspire you on the day.

Jan Burnes brings wealth of practical experience and knowledge to her presentation.
She has been a business owner for over 20 years, firstly as a sole trader with three employees, to Managing Director of a master franchise with over 1,000 employees. During this time Jan raised two children giving her a practical insight into managing a home, a family, and a business.

In the early 90’s Jan, her family, and two cats sailed around the world in their own yacht experiencing exciting and sometimes dangerous adventures. She describes this time as very ‘character building’.  Four years later, and back on terra firma, she established a Women’s Enterprise Centre in the UK helping hundreds of women set up and run their own businesses.

Her next adventure was to establish a Training and Development Consultancy in Australia specialising in Management and Leadership skills. Jan numbers most of the top 100 companies in Australia in her client list.  Jan has also conducted training events throughout Asia: Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Brunei.

In the late 90’s she was recognised as one of Australia’s most dynamic business women by winning the Telstra Business Woman of the Year award.

Cleverly blending her sailing adventure with her business adventures, Jan’s salty anecdotes are full of practical wisdom to help us navigate our lives through the turmoils and challenges that dominate business life today.

What others say....

“Thank you for one of the most inspirational yet practical presentations I have heard in 20 years. I feel privileged to have met Jan – she has left her fingerprints on my mind forever.”

Denise Wilson, MD, Racole buying Agency

“The response to Jan’s presentation at our Women’s forum was remarkable – many attendees arrived at my office later exclaiming that they really must do something NOW to improve their lives and their success.”

Julie Briggs, CEO, REROC Four Shires Council

“I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the content and wisdom of Jan’s presentation, and was most impressed by her great delivery style. She is certainly a thought-provoking and inspiring speaker who, being someone who has ‘walked her talk’ comes across in a relaxed, genuine and sincere manner. Thank you Jan.”
