Refresh Your Soul 2012:

Spiritual Care in Times of Trial & Loss

FRIDAY NIGHT SESSION SOLD OUT!

Saturday reservations still available.

From the organization that brought you the real Patch Adams, M.D. in 2011, Episcopal Retirement Homes' Parish Health Ministry presents "Refresh Your Soul 2012: Spiritual Care in Times of Trial & Loss."

The Conference opens on Friday, March 9th at 6 PM with a dinner and keynote topic: I Could Die Laughing: Promoting Humor with the Sick and Dying.

This year's conference will focus on:

  • a spiritual model of care that can complement the medical model of care
  • how to help people find meaning and value in the midst of pain and suffering
  • how to assess a person's spiritual language
  • learn about several tools and techniques that can help people explore and enhance their beliefs and values
  • six ways of praying with people of any faith
  • promoting humor with the sick and dying (Friday evening)

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Doug Smith, MA. MS, M-DIV, is a professional speaker, trainer, and consultant with more than 25 years of experience as a counselor, therapist and health care administrator. He has abundant experience in the fields of terminal illness and grieving, having lost a brother and two daughters to death. Smith has worked in hospitals, hospices, religious institutions and social service agencies, and has published in numerous professional journals. Smith has also authored several books.

Join us Friday evening, March 9 as Smith presents "I Could Die Laughing: Promoting Humor with the Sick and Dying." Smith's presentation (scehduled for 7 PM following our 6 PM dinner) will provide attendees with a humorous, yet deeply meaningful look at humor with those experiencing terminal illness. Smith will also be with us for the Saturday sessions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

All caregivers and anyone going through times of trial and loss will find Doug Smith's presentation inspiring, motivating and deeply meaningful. Health professionals will also gain insight and practical tools essential to caring for the sick and dying.

CHARITY RAFFLE

To help meet the long-term goal of Parish Health Ministry, a community program of Episcopal Retirement Homes (ERH), becoming self-supporting, we are hosting a charity raffle as a fundraiser during the conference. One hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds from this conference and raffle will benefit the PHM program.
