 12:00 pm (EST)

Policies and procedures in a medical practice occur every day whether they are written or not.  A written policy gives everyone a fair shake and shows due diligence by your practice to take your security seriously.  Always remember with HIPAA, if you aren’t writing it down you aren’t doing it!

When policies aren’t written, practices tend to react randomly to different problems, resulting in different (and usually worse) results.

The absence of written polices also can open the practice up to a higher level of liability.  Would it not be easier to defend yourself in court if a written policy was in place?   Polices must be written for all 18 HIPAA Security Standards and corresponding 44 Implementation Specifications.

Topics will include:

  • Discussion of current policies in place at practice
  • Why are polices required?
  • How policies limit risk and liability
  • How to properly write policies based in risk
