MENTORING FOR THE REST OF US

Mentors.  Sponsors.  Champions.  We all want them, and there is no shortage of studies and commentators to tell us we need them.  But many of us are not entirely clear how we’re meant to find this relationship magic.  Formal mentoring programs that our employers set up or that we seek out can help – sometimes.  Pretty soon, we’ve been around long enough to add a new layer of guilt – that we are not doing enough to give back as mentors, or that we aren’t enjoying our mentoring roles as much as we’d hoped.  Our fault?  The nature of beast?  Bad luck?

Enough, already!

Join Andrea Verwey from Green Valentine  for a straightforward and practical look at mentoring in today’s professional environment, including:

  • what successful mentors and mentees do, exactly (hint: they rarely use the word mentor)
  • the conditions that help you connect with career supporters
  • how to make your mentoring relationships sing, whatever their nature or length

To help put the evening’s discussion straight into practice, we’ve partnered with Andrea to give attendees the chance to road test a round of PWN Speed Mentoring.  Those who opt in on arrival (emphasis on optional) will be matched with a mentor or mentee and given instructions for planning  a once-off, one-hour meeting to talk career and life. Simple, but sweet.  We’ll send registrants more details on PWN Speed Networking closer to the date.  And may the connections begin.

About the presenter:

Andrea Verwey, Green Valentine Consulting

Andrea helps organizations create and deliver smart, targeted learning programs that deliver their people the know-how, connections, and practice they need. She practiced law for a decade in Canada and Australia before before taking on the challenge of leading a global law firm’s Australian learning program, and then striking out on her own with Green Valentine. Andrea designs programs of all kinds, and teaches programs in four areas:  business writing, speaking and presenting, mentoring and networking, and career development. She loves evangelizing about how essential it is for us all to develop strong communication skills and a vibrant professional network. However, best not get her started on the subject of PowerPoint.
