DSM V Update to Include Children & Adults
(AM session from 8:30 am - 12:00 noon)
Description: The DSM has been periodically reviewed and revised since it was first published in 1952. The previous version of DSM was completed nearly two decades ago. Since that time, there has beena wealth of new research and knowledge about mental disorders. The perspective of the DSM has also changed, moving away from the behavioral to a more developmental, evidence-based perspective. The APA Board of Trustees approved the final criteria on December 1, 2013.This information rich workshop will discuss in depth the most recent changes critical to mental health professionals for diagnosing and treating common disorders in children and adults along with the historical context of the DSM. Topics will include Autism Spectrum Disorders, Schizophrenia Spectrum and other Psychotic Disorders in addition to Anxiety, OCD, Trauma and Stress-Related Disorders, Substance Abuse-Related Disorders, and Gender Dysphoria.
Objectives: 1. Discuss the history of the DSM and the changes in perspective over the decades. 2. Discuss the use of the DSM-V for classification and understanding of mental disorders. 3. Identify critical changes for diagnosing and treating between DSM-IV and DSM-V.
Ethical Dilemmas in Clinical Practice, Including Child Psychotherapy & Play Therapy
(PM session from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm)
Description: Working with young children in a therapeutic context can bring a host of ethical challenges. Some of these challenges are even more complex when the therapeutic approach is Play Therapy or a similar approach. We will explore ethical dilemmas and how to provide services in a professional and ethical manner to the youngest, most vulnerable clients. Additionally, ethical dilemmas and common concerns in clinical practice in general will be discussed. This training is suitable for any clinician working with young children.
Objectives: 1. Identify ethical issues specific to treating children and adolescents in Play Therapy or using other modalities. 2. Discuss common ethical dilemmas that may arise when working with young children and how these may differ from working with adults. 3. Describe the responsibility of the Play Therapist of child psychotherapist concerning confidentiality, custody issues, and dual relationships.

Certified Professor and Supervisor of Child Psychotherapy and Play therapy. Director of Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC, in central New York, where she conducts psychotherapy and supervises staff. Associate Professor at State University of NY at Oswego, where she teaches and develops comprehensive syllabi and coordinates the play therapy certificate and mental health counseling programs. Cost: $55 for each seminar individually or $110.00 for both (includes CEUs)

Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten working days prior to the training. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from your refund. If you do not notify us a minimum of ten business days prior to the training of your intent to cancel, you will not receive a refund or credit.
