Teaching to Standards: SCIENCE 6-17-14

Target Audience:

Any middle or high school staff teaching students with moderate to severe disabilities

 

Description: This workshop will focus on use of the researched-based Teaching to Standards: Science curriculum, published by Attainment, to teach grade aligned science vocabulary and concepts to middle/ secondary students with moderate/ severe intellectual disabilities, including autism. Through the practice of inquiry students will learn to engage in science and communication skills with measurable learning outcomes for all students. The primary objective of the workshop will be to provide support in using the curriculum, as well as build use of evidence-based instructional teaching strategies. Models of instruction will be provided with curricular frameworks and lesson plans with explicit guidance. Workshop participants will develop strategies that can be used to collaborate with general educators, to generate grade-linked lessons in core academic content area of science. Participants will be engaged through hands-on lessons, video demonstrations, and planning sessions surrounding students with intensive support needs. Participants need to bring the Teaching to Standards Science curriculum with them if their district has purchased it.

Please dress in layers as it can be difficult to adjust the temperature.

CKEC accepts purchase orders, checks, or money orders for payment. CKEC, for auditing purposes, can not accept cash. 

Attendance Policy: If you register to attend a session, but find you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration as early as possible. Space is limited and by canceling you will allow others to benefit from these highly qualified professional development opportunities. A fee could be assessed for no shows.

Districts will be notified of those who registered and did not attend or did not cancel prior to be session.
