2014 Hunger Summit

A Day of Inspiration & Creative Communion

Raising awareness of meal programs, food equity, and innovative solutions to addressing hunger needs, as well as the need for support of programs working to eliminate hunger on a daily basis. The day will include speakers, breakout sessions, a communal lunch, a panel of experts sharing inventive approaches to ending hunger, and presentation of the Mayor’s End Hunger Awards.

Guest Speaker ~ We are pleased to be joined by former Council Member, and at-large Co-Chair of the Regional Food Committee, Richard Conlin. Richard's work in the Local Food Action Initiative has been instrumental in integrating food system planning and policies into City activities, and enhancing partnerships across the region.

Breakout sessions ~ Focused time on what interests you!

Meal for Many and Nutritional Excellence: Assist Chefs Paul, Marla and Yoruba in the creation of a fabulous lunch “Meal for Many” and acquire information about cooking for those medical challenges such as diabetes, and gluten sensitivity, and pertinent information on general nutrition, ingredient labeling, and buying local. This is an interactive workshop.

Social Equity & Food Justice: Allison Mountjoy with the Community Alliance for Global Justice and the Food Justice project will be leading a workshop on food equity and social justice for underserved and challenged populations.

Meal for Many ~ Lead by Head Chef, Paul Nicolosi of the OSL team, creating more than 450,000 annually for those who are hunger challenged in our community.  The meal for many is creation a communal meal, prepared by many hands, enjoyed by all Summit attendees!
