Wine, Dine and Learn about Ribbonfish

Thursday, January 22, 2015
6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Café Lachine, Nags Head

If you love trying new types of seafood and want to understand how it gets onto your plate, you’ll enjoy attending the first Wine and Dine event of the year taking place at Café Lachine. Chefs Johanna and Justin Lachine will create a custom menu for us to “walk on the wild side” as we feature an unconventional species, ribbonfish. Traditionally named Atlantic cutlassfish, this sleek and silver-skinned fish has mild, tender meat that flakes easily off the bones. This saltwater fish gets its name from its long string-like dorsal fin that waves like a ribbon as it swims.

The price for this multi-course menu, featuring local ribbonfish, with multiple wine pairings is $55 for federation members and $65 for non-members. Seating is limited, so please register below to reserve seats.  Reservations are non-refundable and guests must be 21 years or older or accompanied by an adult.

The federation staff will give updates about current restoration efforts and opportunities to get involved while we wine and dine. The main event will be hearing from commercial fisherman Dewey Hemiliright, a Kitty Hawk native. Captain Dewey has been fishing near and far for more than 25 years. Currently fishing from Wanchese, he’ll explain why the North Carolina coast is so bountiful and why it’s his favorite place to be. Dewey works hard to represent the local fishing industry and also promotes good water quality and healthy habitat, upon which all life depends.

Learn about the importance of eating local seafood and how you can help us protect coastal habitats, remember: No Wetlands, No Seafood!
