Working with the Spiritually Emergent Client: Is it Spiritual Emergence or Psychiatric Emergency?
This program has been approved for 7.5 Continuing Education Credit Hours by NASW/CT and meets the Continuing Education Criteria for Social Work Licensure renewal.
NASW approved hours also count for LPCs and LMFTs under CT state law.
The minimal attention to spirituality given by allopathic medicine is not enough in today’s complex world. The need to incorporate a broader and more comprehensive approach to helping is being recognized by clinicians across all disciplines, especially as the evidence is exponentially mounting that this is an ever-increasing spiritually-emergent society. In this workshop we provide an in-depth review of Spiritual Emergence and Emergencies as identified by the Transpersonal, Humanistic and Evolutionary Psychologies. We will review the works of Sperry, Assagioli, Grof, Lukoff, Maslow, et.al., including a review of the DSM5 new developments on spirituality. We will provide concrete examples and case studies for deferential diagnosis, exercises and practical suggestions for clients whether in spiritual emergence or psychiatric emergency. Educational Objectives:
“Stop worrying about putting the “woo-woo” in your private practice, because it’s been there all along! Psychology is literally the study of the psyche, which is Greek for soul. Now that science and spirituality are catching up, it’s time for psychology and spirituality to close the gap, too. Close the gap in your practice with our workshops.”
