2015 Intro to the Tactical Carbine ***SOLD OUT*** 

This is an introductory class for those who have purchased an AR or AK platform but have no official hands-on training for operating this type of firearm safely and effectively.

Tactical Weapons Training Group has put together a fantastic program to help black rifle beginners learn the fundamentals:  

  • How to operate your carbine properly, including loading, maintaining, and carrying
  • Proper techniques for zeroing in your sights
  • Shooting in different positions - prone, supported, unsupported, kneeling, standing
  • Snap shooting tactics for rapidly bringing your carbine from low carry to a firing position

What you will need:

  • Reliable, magazine-fed Carbine in military calibers (AK,AR, Mini-14 platforms, etc.)
  • 4 reliable magazines for your carbine and a carrier (chest, leg)
  • Sling (make sure it is installed and supports your rifle)
  • Iron sights or optics (and the necessary tools to change their settings)
  • Shooting mat of some kind for the ground
  • Folding / removable bipod or bench bag to rest your rifle on while zeroing
  • 400 rounds for your rifle
  • Weather appropriate clothing, including a billed hat
  • Hearing and eye protection
  • Lunch and hydration

COST: $150 per person. A maximum of 35 spots are available.

Jeffery Wilson

Bio: Federal Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, OPOTA M4 Carbine Instructor, OPOTA Scoped Rifle Instructor, NARK II progressive system of drug identification Instructor, Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor/EOD Officer, Explosive ID and Safety, Explosive Entry and Breaching Instructor and OPOTA Academy Graduate of 1991. Completed OTOA Tactical Team Leader/Operations Planning Course [2012], OTOA combat marksmanship diagnostic workshop and 32 hours of advanced tactical training in 2013 alone. Involved in Tactical Weapons and Training since 1994 and Law Enforcement since 1988. Also involved in other firearm activities such as NRA Women on Target, IDPA, and Buckeye Firearms Association.Member of O.T.O.A. [Ohio Tactical Officers Association], and N.T.O.A. [National Tactical Officers Association].

Drake_Oldham Drake Oldham

Bio: Drake Oldham began his law enforcement career in 1997. He started at a 100 officer agency where he worked patrol, SWAT, and training. He accepted a position as an Instructor with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in 2008 with a focus in firearms and tactics. Drake returned to full time law enforcement in 2013. He builds custom 1911’s when he isn’t working the road. Certifications include OPOTA pistol, revolver, shotgun, subgun, and carbine. He also holds scoped rifle certification through the FBI. Instructor certifications include chemical/less lethal from Combined Tactical Systems, OPOTA OC Instructor, OPOTA DT Instructor, ASP baton and handcuffing Instructor from ASP Taser, and Solo response active threat Instructor.

john_farnsworth John Farnsworth

Bio: Been involved in law enforcement since 1996. Currently a Police Officer and Academy/Firearms Instructor at the Cleveland Police Department as well as instructing (adjunct) and lecturing at OTOA Seminars, National Patrol Rifles Conference, Center Mass Inc., Cuyahoga Community College, Attorney General and OPOTA, and the Orco Sportsman’s Association. Received high marks in Ohio Police and Fire Games, Glock Sport Shooting Foundation, Michigan Stat Top Twenty, and Police Pistol Combat. Holds many certifications, OPOTA certifications include Scoped Rifle Instructor, Precision Rifle Operator, Basic Precision Rifle, Advanced AR-15 Armorer, Remington M700 Armorer, Remington 870 Armorer, Semi-Auto Pistol Operator, Shotgun Instructor, Driving Instructor; Center Mass Inc. certifications include Tactical Pistol Instructor and Patrol Rifle Instructor; Multiple Glock Inc. russ_lyons Russ Lyons

Bio: Been involved in Law enforcement since 1994. Currently on the Cleveland Police Department SWAT Unit as well as Firearms Instructor for the Cleveland Police Department. Has lectured/instructed on firearms and tactical training at OTOA, Center Mass Inc., Ohio Attorney General Office and OPTOA, ans Cuyahoga Community College. He is a member of NRA [Life Member], OTOA [Ohio Tactical Officer's Association], and the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors since 2009. OPTOA certifications include Scoped Rifle Instructor/Operator, Remington 870 Armorer, M4/AR15 Armorer, Combat Pistol Operator, Private Security Instructor, Instructional Skills/Development, High Intensity Confrontational Simulation Training Instructor.
