Compressor Vibration: Techniques to Ensure High Reliability and Integrity (Advanced)
Vibration, Dynamics, Torsional, Surge, Resonance, Troubleshooting,
and Asset Management

BETA engineer measuring vibration on recip compressor This advanced course addresses many of the more complex elements in compressor design, installation, and operation. The first part of this course is focused on the key design concepts that are necessary to avoid resonance and dynamic related problems. The second part of the course is focused on field troubleshooting issues

The course is primarily focused on reciprocating compressors, but vibration/reliability issues relating to centrifugal and screw compressors will also be included.

Objectives
  • Provide advanced training on compressor vibration and pulsation control BETA analyst checking vibration from small bore piping
  • Impart tricks and pitfalls involved in compressor design, installation, and operation
  • Equip participants with critical knowledge of how to avoid resonance and dynamic related problems
  • Help participants gain a better understanding of how to troubleshoot vibration issues in the field
Participants Will Learn How To
  • Address common vibration/pulsation issues when designing, installing, and operating compressors
  • Identify problem areas and solutions
  • Effectivly apply troubleshooting techniques in the field
  • Employ advanced monitoring and analysis tools to increase reliablity and avoid down time

Content and Approach

A large number of case studies are used throughout the course. A hands-on demonstration will be used to illustrate some of the concepts.

 Topics and case studies cover:

  •     Recip model Design issues affecting reliability and integrity
  •     Vibration overview
  •     Pulsation control
  •     Mechanical resonance
  •     Torsional resonance
  •     Skid/foundation resonance
  •     Screw compressor vibration issues
  •     Piping vibration
  •     Pipe stress analysis under vibrating loads
  •     Interaction between multiple units
  •     Commissioning and baseline inspections
  •     Field troubleshooting techniques
  •     Analysis tools
  •     Solutions to field vibration and integrity
  •     Monitoring approaches to improve reliability

Who Should Attend

It is recommended that attendees are familiar with reciprocating and centrifugal compressors. This can include rotating, facility and design engineers, field maintenance, EPCs, Packagers, OEMs, and other related fields. Some advanced vibration and acoustic concepts are covered.
