GreenSTEM:
Inspiring and Empowering Learners
to Change the World

PD Workshop

June 11-12, 2015

GreenSTEM creates opportunities for students to apply science, technology, engineering, and math to investigate and solve local sustainability issues affecting their own communities, such as:

  • Conserving natural resources and energy
  • Protecting the balance and health of our ecosystems
  • Reducing pollution, consumption, and waste
  • Connecting people to their local natural environment

Join McREL for this two-day workshop to learn about the GreenSTEM concept and how it can help students gain lifelong skills and confidence to tackle future challenges in their community. We’ll share tools, tips, and information needed to design a GreenSTEM lesson or program that can ignite your students’ passion for learning.

 In this workshop we’ll explore:

  • What GreenSTEM programs and lessons look like and feel like
  • How to design effective GreenSTEM lessons
  • The benefits of making STEM learning local, relevant, and green
  • Developing project-based, place-based, service learning processes that engage students in becoming citizen scientists
  • How to implement GreenSTEM in your classroom, school, and community

Who should attend?
K-12 STEM teachers, curriculum coordinators, and program leaders, as well as educators from schools/classes focusing on environmental sciences and green/renewable technology.
