Quartersawn Hardwoods

The Indianapolis Chapter of CSI is having its July Chapter Meeting at the Willows on Westfield on Thursday, July 16, from 5:30pm-8:30pm

The presentation will be about the history of sustainable American hardwood. At the end of this session, attendees will:

Be able to discuss the history of sustainable American hardwood resource management
Be able to discuss the process and importance of kiln drying hardwoods to 6-8% moisture content
Be able to discern the difference between quartersawn and plain sawn hardwoods in terms of stability and durability.
Will understand the basic specification realities for widths, lengths and thickness of American hardwoods for interior application.

About the Presenter:

Criswell Davis, Architectural Marketing Consultant for Frank Miller Lumber and The American Hardwood Export Council has been in the hardwood business for 28 years and has represented Frank Miller Lumber, the world’s largest quartersawn hardwood sawmill, for 19 years. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Wood Products Manufacturers Association, the Western Hardwood Association and the Hardwood Federation PAC in Washington D.C.

He regularly represents Frank Miller Lumber in presentations to architects and designers in the US and lectures internationally on behalf of the American Hardwood Export Council, talking about American hardwoods in design and quartersawing. A renowned speaker, he is also a university lecturer and has presented to more than 3,000 architects, students and designers worldwide over the past 5 years. Currently involved as an advisor on large-scale architectural projects in the US, Australia, India, China, Singapore and the UAE, he is viewed as an invaluable expert resource regarding American hardwoods in sustainable design.
