Tour

Our next fantastic tour in celebration of IEEE Denver’s 100 anniversary will take place the afternoon of September 16, 2015 with a tour of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO.

The IEEE visit to NREL will include tours of the Research Support Facility (RSF) and the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF).

  • The Research Support Facility (RSF) is the nation’s largest ultra-energy efficient building and a prototype for the commercial building industry. The RSF is designed to use 50% less energy than conventional office space built to code at a comparable cost. Design features include passive energy strategies and renewable energy technologies.
  • The Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) is central to the future of NREL and the nation. It will resolve issues associated with transforming the electrical grid and adding new renewable energy generation systems, reducing the risks of new technology adoption.

The tour will start promptly at 1:30pm and go to 4:00pm.  Guests should plan to arrive no later than 1:10 to clear security.

U.S. Citizens must have a valid government issued photo identification (i.e., a valid Drivers License) to be admitted into the facility.

If you are a foreign national (this includes Canadian citizens, permanent resident aliens and resident aliens) you will also need to complete an additional form that will be provided directly to you on shortly after registration.  These forms will then need to be provided to our contact at NREL no later than Sept. 9th or you will be dropped from the tour list (we appologize for the short turnaround time).  You will need to bring your identification and paperwork, typically a passport and visa, to be admitted into the facility.

We will need to have our guest list to NREL one week prior to our visit, so there can be no last minute substitutions.  More detailed visitor information will be emailed to registered guests prior to the tour.

Registration will close at 5:00pm on Monday, Sept. 7, or when the 20 person limit is met (whichever is first).  Our last two tours filled in just a matter hours after they were announced, so don’t hesitate or you will miss this great opportunity!

Yours sincerely,
IEEE Denver Section Executive Committee
