College Bound Essentials!

College Bound workshop for students 8th-12th grades
Sponsored by Classical Conversations of Lake Norman

This exciting event has been coordinated by Christy Williamsen and Classical Conversations of Lake Norman to provide students ranging from 8th-12th grades with a range of resources as they plan for college admissions and scholarships.  While most of this material is valuable for all high school students, some portions will be tailored to home educated students.

Where?  This session will take place at Lake Norman Christian School in Davidson, NC.

Why is this exciting? First, you get to hang out with great people while you learn information that can totally change how your family approaches what lies ahead regarding college, scholarships and financial aid.  What's really unique and exciting is that instead of the standard $75 per student, per class that Scholarship Gold usually charges, because of the partnership with the hosting organization, this event fee is deeply discounted only $50 per student. (Parents are encouraged to come along with their student at no extra charge.)

What will we learn? Communicating articulately and with confidence can make or break an admission or scholarship interview. Effective interviewing skills will also have an impact on future job or internship opportunities.  This class will equip students to think on their feet, know what they want to say and help them say it in the right way.

This fun and  interactive workshop will cover.....

  - the importance of good communication skills, not just in the college admission and scholarship process, but in all areas of life (relationships, job searches, etc.)

  - body language- posture, eye contact, hand shakes...all of the ways you send a message  without even saying a word.  We'll also cover what to wear to admissions and scholarship events

  - how to answer questions articulately and thoughtfully, in a way that tells the other person you are mature and able to think critically

 -  word crutches and the importance of ditching them.  We'll get rid of the "ums", "likes", "you knows" and other crutches that make someone sound indecisive and unconvincing.

-the most common interview questions for admissions and scholarships.  Students will be given a chance to practice how they would answer those questions in an interview setting.

  - We will also break into small groups and practice interviewing and providing constructive feedback to one another

Who should come?  Homeschool and non-homeschool families with students in grades 8-12  will absolutely benefit from this event. This exciting session empowers students and parents to make the choices that will position them well for college admissions, competitive scholarships and maximum financial aid.  It's never too early to understand what lies ahead and how to best prepare!
