CCB Lenten Study Series - February 17th
Join Rev. Wendell Taylor for his 15th Annual Lenten Study Series. This year's topic to explore is "A Judeo-Christian Response to Suffering" and will be held over 4 weekly sessions (February 17th, February 24th, March 2nd & March 16th). This exploration is open to all members of our church and community.
Week 1 Agenda
- Overview of Course
- "Defining" suffering
- Types of suffering
- Overview of suffering in the Bible
- Sharing personal stories of suffering, either our own or that of others
Rev. Taylor hopes you can find the time to learn more about this very human and very religous condition.
While it would be best to make all four weeks, you are invited to make as many of the four sessions as your schedule permits. Each week brings its own value and will be fun.
The following books and resources will be used throughout the course:
- Passages from the Old and New Testaments, especially Job and Gospels
- J.B., a play by Archibald MacLeish *
- Why Bad Things Happen to Good People by Rabbi Harold Kushner *
- Suffering by Dorothee Soelle
- The Way of Suffering by Jerome A. Miller
- The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis
* These two items can be purchased ahead of time for $10. These are both available after service in the Chapel Room from Rev. Taylor or you can call the Church Office to request your copy. Feel free to bring your own if you have access to them.
