College Bound Essentials - Spartanburg

This unique workshop is beneficial to all students- homeschool, public school or private school- but certain portions of this special presentation in Spartanburg will take time to also address the needs of homeschool families.  This presentation will be beneficial all college bound students, regardless of educational model.

This class will be presented at Spartanburg Methodist College- Gibbs Auditorium on May 12th from 6-9 pm, if there are at least 20 families interested in taking part.

Fees & Materials- The cost of the workshop is just $75/student. Parents are encouraged to come along at no additional charge.  Students attending this session will receive a comprehensive, College Success Workbook to guide them through all aspects of college preparation

When registering, only enroll the student, not the parent.  Extra students can be registered at the same time for the same price by listing them as "Guests".

Who should come? Rising 9th-12th graders and their parents will absolutely benefit from this workshop; although motivated 7th and 8th graders have also benefitted in previous sessions.  This information is most helpful when students and parents can learn it sooner than later so that they have more time to act on it before the senior year.  While the homeschool community's needs will be targeted at different points in this session, students from public and private schools will absolutely find it valuable as well.

What will we learn?  This class will give students and parents valuable information on how to make the decisions throughout high school that will result in maximum admission offers and scholarship money.

 Specifically, the class will:

  • Teach students how to get full ride offers to over 200 schools with just one test
  • How to build a homeschool transcript, profile and resume that will result in the best admission offers
  • How to go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, MIT and more for FREE (really)
  • Teach them how to find their best college fits
  • Cover basic interview skills
  • Teach students how to tour and evaluate a college as it relates to the student’s interests
  • Identify the best and least expensive ways to increase SAT and ACT scores
  • Encourage them to take “ownership” of this next stage in their lives, to be proactive, organized and serious about this decision and help them strategize a game plan to get their best results!

On a personal note,  Ms. Hartley's own daughter, a college senior at Dartmouth, won over $800,000 in merit scholarship money to top schools (Sewanee, Furman, Wofford, High Point Univ., Univ of Oklahoma and more). She also has a son in the honors college at College of Charleston and a high school junior who was just recruited to swim for Harvard. So, besides the hundreds of students she works with each year, she has gone through this process as a parent too.
