Building Information Modeling (BIM) SEI Inaugural Event

Join us for the Inaugural Meeting of our newly formed Structural Engineering Institute at Maggiano's Restaurant at the Cherry Hill Mall on Thursday May 26th. SEI National President David Odeh will be discussing Building Information Modeling (BIM). This meeting will qualify for 1.5 PDH's.

Please note that the formation of a new structural Engineering Institute will help boost the activities, related to structural engineering in South Jersey. All members and non-members are invited to attend.

Presentation Summary:

Building information modeling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models are files which can be exchanged or networked to support decision-making about a place.

The most powerful benefits of Building Information Modeling can only be realized in highly collaborative project environments.  However, great challenges, both technical and cultural, must be overcome to achieve true interoperability between design disciplines, fabricators, installers, and asset managers.

Biography:
David Odeh is a Principal at Odeh Engineers, Inc., a leading structural engineering consulting firm based in Providence, Rhode Island with projects throughout the United States and international recognition for its innovative use of technology.  David has over 20 years of experience in the design and analysis of building structures, with particular emphasis in the development and application of digital design tools to structural engineering practice.

David is the President of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE for 2015-2016, and has served on its Board of Governors since 2012.  He is a Fellow of SEI and of ASCE.

David has also served on the adjunct faculty of the Brown University School of Engineering in Providence for over 14 years, and teaches courses in structural analysis and design of buildings.  He has been an invited lecturer at numerous other colleges and universities, including the Rhode Island School of Design (School of Architecture), the University of Cincinnati, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Notre Dame.

He has published numerous articles in engineering conference proceedings and engineering journals.  His most recent publications appear in the October 2014 edition of Structure magazine and the April 2015 edition of Modern Steel Construction.  He was a featured speaker at the 2015 ASCE National Convention in New York, and at the 2015 Civil Engineering Triennial at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London.

David received a Sc.B. in Engineering from Brown University and an M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in 23 states and is a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in the States of Illinois and California.  In addition to his professional licenses, David is certified in the practice of structural engineering by the Structural Engineering Certification Board (SECB), a distinction that requires annual re-certification through rigorous continuing education requirements.
