A week in Kyoto Japan with Phyllis Lei Furumoto                                        

The practice of Reiki arose in a  Japanese man when his country and the culture were going through a revolution or perhaps a renaissance period because of the influx of influence from outside Japan's borders.  In the 250 years before this time, the ruling family or Shoganate, Tokogawa, kept Japan isolated from the rest of the world.  

Mikao Usui was born, raised, and lived during the time when Japan was finding its place in a world made smaller by sailing ships.  The nature of the times and his own brillance of character, created the moment in which the energy of Reiki was received.  Through him, the practice of Reiki developed.  To walk the streets of Kyoto, to visit the Palaces of the Emperors and the Tokogawa, to touch the art forms of tea ceremony, artisians, and gardens is to experience on a cellular level the essential nature of our practice.  

The principles of our practice are reflected in the practices of the indigenous people throughout the world.  The relationship of human beings and nature is reflected in the culture.  The Japanese culture is unique in its expression which permeates the practice of Usui Shiki Ryoho.

The keystone to the tour are the three nights spent on Mount Kurama at the Onsen or Hot Springs Hotel.  The group will have a chance to exchange Reiki, to walk the mountain, and on the second day there, to have a guided experience of the shrines and temples on the mountain.  

To assist in your experience of Japan, the Ryokan or Japanese Inns where we will be staying will have furo or large bathing tubs that you first wash yourself and then soak. The beds will be futon or thick quilts laid out each night on the tatami mats, and the meals will be Japanese.  

To enjoy the tour, it is important that you pack lightly.  The ideal is a day backpack and a small suitcase.  Internet is available but don't count on doing much real business or communication during this week.  There will not be very much time for this and I encourage you to immerse yourself into the experience.  Additionally, if you do not know how to use chopsticks, start practicing!  We will be eating Japanese, sleeping Japanese style, and soaking in the Japanese way of life. 

 This tour has been designed just for you by "Windows to Japan" Tour Group with direction from Phyllis Furumoto.  Each tour is similar to the other.  Differences occur because of the availabilty of reservations at the Imperial Palace, Kurama Onsen, and the Moss Garden Temple.  

PREPARATION: It is good to have background information.  Phyllis recommends reading about the period of  time between 1860-1950 in Japan.  For more detail of the culture, the book:  Kyoto, a Cultural History by John Dougill is recommended. 

 TOURS:

     Tour One: October 6-13 2017 for English speakers

     Tour Two: November 14-21 2017 for English speakers

 COST: Approximately $3500 USD for each tour   

 DEPOSIT: A $500 deposit is paid to Phyllis in USD for the tour of your choice by Paypal.  Upon receipt of the deposit, your place will be reserved.  Tnere are a limited number of places in each tour.  Please book early. 

INCLUDED IN TOUR COST: October tour and November tour includes double occupancy room (no single rooms available) each with one futon for each person for 7 nights, 7 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 6 dinners, interpretation/guide service for 8-9 hours a day 5-6 days, public transportation costs between sightseeing locations and ryokan, tips for guides, entrance fees, and Phyllis's fee including her expenses.  

 Not included in the Tour Cost:  Your transportation from your home to the Ryokan in Kyoto and back again, other tours that you may wish to book with Windows to Japan, phone calls and internet connection costs during the tour, and any meals not included, personal shopping, and other entrance fees that may occur when we visit a garden or venue spontaneously.  

TOUR LIMIT: The tour is limited to 12 people for each week.  Your deposit will ensure that you have a place in the tour.  

CANCELLATION: Cancellation will be handled on an individual basis if the cancellation notice is received by Phyllis Furumoto less than 45 days in advance of the day that the tour commences.  If cancellation is received more than 45 days in advance of the first day of that particular tour, the deposit will be refunded.  There will be a waiting list created in case of cancellations to ensure the tours will be full.

TRAVEL INFORMATION: There will be more information about flight arrangements, how to get to Kyoto and the Ryokan, the daily schedules, and other pertinent information after registering.  When making airline reservations, please also be sure that you have travelr's insurance in case of an accident or other unexpected medical care needs.
