SCORE presents this 2-part workshop for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. At the end of the workshop participants will have the opportunity to network with other business owners and meet SCORE certified mentors who are ready to provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL mentoring.

1. Small Business Insurance - What do I need and Why do I need it?

Not all businesses are the same, so their insurance needs will differ, and what you need now, may be different than what you need in 2 to 3 years.  We will cover the basics, so that you have a general understanding on how to protect your business from the unexpected.

Presented by: John Lumley - John is a Business Consultant for USI Southwest that specializes in providing business protection and insurance.  John has over 15 years’ experience helping small and mid-sized businesses navigate the complexities of having employees.  From benefits and Human Resources to payroll and regulatory compliance, John has provided guidance and solutions to help business owners grow and succeed. John is a graduate of the University of Houston Bauer School of Business majoring in Finance and Marketing.

2.  Insights for sources of funds for small business with SBA loans:

You will learn:

  •     Why use SBA Financing
  •     Criteria  used to evaluate SBA loan
  •     What lenders look for

Presenter by: Bruce Hurta - Bruce has over 20 years experience in Small Business Lending.  He is currently with Members Choice Credit Union, member of Houston Association of Government Guaranteed lenders.  In June 2014, he received the Financial Services Champion of the Year Award from SCORE Houston and the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Houston District Office.
