MAFP Member Advocacy Training Day  FREE (but you must pre-register)! 

If you are a MAFP Member Family Physician interested in Advocacy for your patients and our specialty of Family Medicine, but don't know where to begin - this FREE training day is for you!

We are starting out this year with a dinner and speaker on Wednesday evening. Christopher Pezzullo DO, Maine State Health Officer, will be joining us.  There will be a short presentation and time for interactive discussion with Dr. Pezzullo.

 

Thursday morning sessions will provide practical tools and skills for you to use when we all visit the Maine Legislative Leadership "on the hill".

8:00-8:25 – Check in & continental breakfast offered

8:25-8:30 – Introductions and explanation of today’s program

8:30 – 11:30 – Program - including Presentations by

-  Michelle Greenhalgh (AAFP Governmental Affairs, Washington) on the national landscape & how it relates to Maine

Linda Sanborn MD, MAFP - Fundamentals of Lobbying & Legislative Process; and Practical & Strategic Tools to Help FP’s in lobbying & advocacy (presentation with possible “role-play” exercise)

Representative from MMA - What’s coming up here in the next Maine legislative session?  - preview the upcoming bills, issues and Talking Points for today’s legislator meetings

11:25 – 12:15pm – Lite lunch

12:30 - 4:00pm - Individual meetings scheduled with your legislators (at Maine Statehouse); opportunity to attend committee hearings, session, etc.

4:30 - 5:00pm – All return to the Senator for a time of  “debrief” from today’s meetings; evaluation (what worked, what didn’t); and discuss strategies for next steps in advocacy and “how FP’s can make a difference after today” (lite Hors d'oeuvres served)
