“Acute Otitis Media:
An Osteopathic Approach"

Biography:

Dr. Caronia is the Osteopathic Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn.  She earned her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from NYIT-College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency and chief residency in pediatrics at Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital. She is currently an attending in the division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine as well as the division of General Pediatrics. She is a fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians. She is an active national member of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians Graduate Medical Education Committee. She has a strong interest in promoting the use of osteopathic practice and principles in the treatment of children. In addition, she has a strong commitment to residency and medical student education and mentorship. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the use of osteopathic manipulation as an effective, non-pharmaceutical, nonsurgical, adjunctive treatment for young children with middle ear effusion following acute otitis media.
  • Review the principles of osteopathy and how they relate to the pathophysiology of acute otitis media.
  • Summarize a literature review that supports the use of osteopathic manipulation as an effective treatment.
