Free Workshop: Key HR Issues and How They Impact New York’s Small Businesses

Learn Sound HR Policies to Keep Your Business on Track.

Who should attend?
Small business executives who want to keep up with the most current labor and employment law.

Overview

Recently, it has been hard to keep up with HR-related legal developments when there are so many of them. Smaller businesses do not have the time or solely dedicated staff to track these changes. This workshop will update you on these new laws and regulations, including those impacting wages and salaries.

It will also focus on best practices for implementing effective employee handbooks and outline anti-discrimination protections and other areas governed by existing laws and regulations. The presenters will also reserve time for questions to help ensure they meet your needs as small business executives and cover the topics that are relevant to you.

At the end of the workshop, you will have the knowledge to:

  • Define legal hiring practices
  • Describe the delayed federal Department of Labor overtime rules and possible outcomes
  • Summarize new increases in New York State and City salary requirements for certain exempt employees
  • Discuss New York State and federal pay practices for travel, training and other complex wage and hour rules
  • Identify criteria to distinguish between independent contractors and employees
  • Define federal and State pay equity, anti-retaliation and other non-discrimination protections
  • Outline the best practices for creating and updating employee handbooks
