Demystifying Strategic Planning for Non Profits

Learn how your organization can achieve its mission with effective Strategic Planning. A robust strategic plan is a valuable tool that will guide effective day to day management of your organization and help you to be responsive and proactive when you hit unanticipated bumps in the road. Learn how to develop a strategic plan and explore how the easy to understand elements work together to create an operational plan that will help your entire organization function more efficiently and responsively.

In this session, you’ll learn the elements of an effective strategic plan; how the elements work together to create an objectives-­based operational plan; how the operational plan guides the activities of all functional departments in a cohesive and intentional way to achieve strategic goals; why and how you should evaluate the current allocation of your human and financial resources to ensure they are being used in the most effective and productive way, and what evaluation tools you can use to measure your outcomes against your goals.

Workshop Audience:Nonprofit executive directors and board members.

Attendees will receive a sample plan and workbook upon completion of the workshop.

 After attending this session, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the purpose, importance and benefits of a short-­ to mid-­term Strategic Plan.
  • Understand the elements of an effective Strategic Plan.-­
  • Understand how a Strategic Plan is implemented using an objective-­oriented Operational Plan.
  • Understand the importance of evaluating outcomes against goals and how to adjust the Operational Plan objectives and action plans as necessary to stay on track.

Speaker's Bio:

  Cate Redfern (CFRE) helps small to medium nonprofits that have limited resources to excel at achieving their mission.Trained in Communication and Marketing, Cate has a unique background with over 20 years’ experience as a nonprofit board member, volunteer, development director and executive management team member in South Africa, Botswana, theCayman Islands and Missouri. As a nonprofit strategy consultant, Cate focuses her clients’ efforts on strategic planning,intentional action and measurable results to achieve mission success using effective, actionable strategies that allocate resources efficiently.

Cate is a volunteer Auxiliary Member of SCORE, providing SCORE mentors with nonprofit clients with nonprofit expertise within her subject area. She is also a workshop and seminar facilitator for SCORE’s education programs and she volunteers on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Association of Fundraising Professionals: St. Louis Chapter.Cate served on the Board of Directors and chaired the Fundraising Committee for St. Louis Earth Day from 2014 to 2016.
