Introduction to Trauma Informed Care 

A young Asian homeless child who is scared, alone and have little hope for the future. He is a hgh risk of abuse and trafficking

 

What:  An interactive workshop for professionals interested in learning about how to best support and understand persons who have experienced trauma. This is an introductory workshop aimed at those who have not had previous trauma informed care training. 

Learning Objectives: 

Through a cultural and trauma-informed lens you will be able to: 

  1. Understand the definition of trauma and  adverse situations that can cause trauma 
  2. Understand how the neurobiology of trauma affects consumers across the lifespan 
  3. Learn about the major findings of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study and how the prevalence of adverse childhood experiences impacts public health
  4. Identify the function of trauma-related behaviors and responses and how to help support consumers 
  5. Learn five ways you can enhance a trauma survivor's sense of safety in your office 
  6. Identify your own self-care plan to decrease professional burnout and enhance quality of care when working with trauma survivors

When:  August 14, 2017 from 10 AM to 2:30 PM

Where: The Hotel Marshfield, Marshfield Wisconsin

Who should attend:  Educators, clergy, public health, legal professionals, human service, law enforcement, elected officials, social workers, health professionals and others.  

Provided:  Certificate of attendance, lunch and refreshments, and written materials, including a copy of The Body Keeps The Score (a New York Times bestselling book on trauma) for each attendee.

Registration and Cancellation Policy:

  1. Registration Fee:  $175 per person ($100 for students) Payment methods accepted:  Check or Credit Card (via PayPal).
  2. Cancellation Policy:  You may send another person from your organization if the original registrant cannot attend. 
  3. Important:  We especially invite governmental (municipal, county, Tribal) organizations to bring a multidisciplinary team (e.g. public health, human service, law enforcement, etc.) to this workshop.  

About the Workshop Leader:  BJ Nichols, MSSW, LCSW, SUDS, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Substance Use Disorder Specialty who specializes in treating complex trauma and traumatic dissociation in children, adolescents and adults.  Ms. Nichols has specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is Nationally Certified in Trauma- Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  She has taught for the Master's in Social Work program at UW-Madison.  Ms. Nichols currently works for a community mental health center as a lifespan psychotherapist and provides advanced trainings in complex trauma and dissociation.
