PROGRAM:
"Water Management in Commercial Buildings with Continuous Insulation"
This full day workshop will help architects, designers, general contractors, builders, and building supply representatives apply building science to the appropriate application of continuous exterior insulation to a variety of commercial building types. Now that energy codes recognize the importance of total effective R-values of walls, rather than simple nominal insulation values, the application of continuous exterior insulation will be more common place, if not mandatory. To avoid compromising the durability of buildings, this will require changes in design, material selection and detailing to ensure the effective deflection, drainage and drying of moisture from building components. The session will apply the physics of air, heat and moisture flow to the new code requirements that will encourage continuous insulation, such that participants can appreciate the risks and opportunities associated with their design choices. A thorough discussion and demonstration of the design options, material choices and appropriate detail alternatives will be covered.

The workshop will include group exercises, mock-ups, simulations and an outline of best practices being used by design professionals across the country. This presentation will allow participants to see and discuss a variety of continuous insulation materials and strategies for ensuring their appropriate application to the buildings they are likely to design. Information learned at the session will help participants design and build long lasting, healthy, sustainable buildings.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
•  A deeper understanding of the science of air, heat and moisture flow as it relates to continuous insulation and appropriate water management in buildings.
•  The impact energy code changes will have on design options and material selection
•  Identify important material properties of continuous insulation alternatives and how they will affect water management principles.
•  Identify cost effective design and material installation strategies to avoid water intrusion.
•  Learn important techniques for detailing water management when applying continuous insulation
•  Identify cost effective techniques and methods for overcoming the challenges and barriers for implementing continuous insulation in different types of commercial buildings.

METHOD OF PAYMENT:
All payments must be postmarked or processed online by 9/30 for Early Bird Registration Rates and by 10/19 for inclusion in workshop. If you register and do not attend, you will be invoiced accordingly.
