Everything You Need to Know to Run a Nonprofit

You will come away with an understanding of entity options, organizational structure, and legal issues for nonprofits. Discussions will focus on developing amission statement, conducting a simple organizational assessment, establishing a preliminary budget, objectives and outcomes. This course is intended for nonprofits at all stages.There are 1375 nonprofit organizations registered in Sonoma County.* The exact number fluctuates constantly, but you get the point. Thousands of good people are doing good things for other people, the environment and animals by raising billions of dollars annually for their programs. And you want to start another one. What should you know before you jump into the deep end of that pool?

The Presenter: Daryl Reese and Fran Meininger

Fran has over 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, from volunteer coordinator to Executive Director, as well as membership on many boards, councilsand commissions. Additionally she worked with numerous clients as owner/consultant of her firm, Results Oriented Consulting, working with SoCo organizations in transition. Under her direction, as E.D. the Boys and Girls Club, Sonoma Valley conducted a $ 3.2 million capital campaign to build a 26,000 sq ftfacility. She specializes in the areas of resource development, strategic planning, community relations and program development.

Daryl’s practice focuses on nonprofit law, business law, and civil litigation. As a former business leader and nonprofit executive, he brings a wealth of knowledgeand understanding to the business needs of business entities and nonprofit organizations of all types. As a strong advocate, he is passionate about helping clients achieve their goals, whether forming a new corporation or limited liability company, launching a nonprofit organization, drafting or reviewing a contract, or engaging in the challenges of litigation. Daryl received his undergraduate degree from California State University, Northridge, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the W.P.Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He earned his Master of Legal Studies and Juris Doctorate degrees, cum laude, from Empire College School of Law.
