A Public Health Approach to Rural Transportation Safety 

The National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) is hosting a FREE, 1.5-hour online webinar. 

Webinar Description
This webinar will provide an overview of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s public health approach to preventing motor vehicle crash injuries and deaths in rural areas. 

Webinar Outcomes
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to: 

  • Summarize the public health approach to motor vehicle injury prevention.
  • Identify CDC resources, tools, and programs that can support transportation safety efforts in rural communities. 

Target Audience
This training is directed towards a very broad safety audience including, but not limited to, law enforcement, planners, engineers, first responders, elected officials, public health, tourism agencies, and safety culture experts. Participants should have some basic familiarity with transportation safety. 

Course Presenters
Laurie Beck, Epidemiologist, CDC/National Center for Injury Prevention and Control

  • Ms. Laurie Beck, MPH, is an epidemiologist with the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/ National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (CDC/NCIPC). She has been responsible for research and programs in transportation safety for almost 15 years and focuses primarily on seat belt use and safe transportation for older adults. Prior to joining CDC/NCIPC, she worked on a public health surveillance system in the field of maternal and child health. Ms. Beck has a BA in Sociology from Wake Forest University and a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Science and Health Education from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.
