U.S.-Turkey Relations: What is at Stake & the Impact on the Middle East
While built on a long-standing and valued alliance, relations between the U.S. and Turkey have become increasingly turbulent over the past year. Critical domestic and regional developments have tested Turkey on a continuous basis since last summer’s coup attempt. Washington’s reactions to these crises – as well as differing regional priorities – have left officials on both sides bewildered and frustrated. This continued friction has culminated in the current bilateral visa freeze, in effect since early October.
Please join THO for a panel discussion on the intricacies of the contemporary U.S.-Turkey alliance, featuring Nicolas A. Heras (the Center for a New American Security) and Dr. Michael Reynolds (Princeton University and the Foreign Policy Research Institute). The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Nora Fisher Onar (Coastal Carolina University and the German Marshall Fund). The speakers will focus on the impact of weakened bilateral ties in Washington, Ankara, and the Middle East.
