Georgia Association of Woodturners

Club Membership Information & Application

GAW members include all skill levels of woodturning, from "just starting"... to hobbyist... to professional. Beginners are always welcome... you don't have to know how to turn! Anyone interested in learning about woodturning is welcome to enjoy our club meetings. If you're interested in actually making wood chips fly, club membership is one of the best ways to learn.

The Georgia Association of Woodturners (GAW) was the first woodturning club in Georgia and one of the first chapters of the American Association of Woodturners.  We are excited about bringing new people into our craft, and we're dedicated to providing education, information and organization to those interested in woodturning.

DEMONSTRATIONS AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Monthly Demonstrations-

Becoming a member of GAW is one of the least costly and most effective ways to learn and improve your turning skills. At each meeting, there is a live demonstration by a well-known woodturner interested in teaching you new skills.

Instant Gallery

Each meeting, some members bring in their latest work to show and discuss.  This is great chance to see what others are turning, to learn about new techniques, proven finishes, discuss form, etc., and perhaps spark an idea for your next turning.

Hands-On Workshops-

GAW also sponsors hands-on, day-long training classes with professional woodturners from around the world. These are small group sessions with a high level of individual attention for each student. GAW members typically receive a 50% discount on class fees.

Scholarships-

GAW has an active scholarship program through which members may attend woodturning courses, individual training and workshops.

Video Library-

GAW maintains an extensive library of woodturning videos in both DVD and VHS formats, which are available to members for monthly rental at a nominal fee.

Annual symposium-

Each fall, GAW sponsors a three-day woodturning event. The weekend is filled with demonstrations by renowned woodturners from around the world. A large, well-stocked vendor area, Instant Gallery, Saturday evening banquet and auction round out the event.

Fellowship and Fun

When we're not turning, we're probably getting together and talking about turning! Whether its a picnic, a tool sale, exhibiting at a woodworking show, a Holiday party or going to a crafts show, there are lots of opportunities to socialize with a great group of people.

Community Support

Our club and the local Atlanta Woodcraft store regularly sponsors and teaches woodturning classes specifically for Wounded Warriors. . As part of this club-sponsored program, members then invite these veterans into their shops for one-on-one mentoring.  GAW also offers Wounded Warrior scholarships to our annual symposium.
