Dinner Discussion for ASPA Student and Professional Members on Local Government Management

The Southern California Chapter of ASPA is pleased to continue our informal dinners by presenting a personal and interactive evening with Cynthia Kurtz and Joy Forbes. These prominent professionals who have navigated local government, non-profit and private sector endeavors will share their personal stories and provide unique perspectives on career transitions, choices and opportunities.

Cynthia Kurtz served as Pasadena's City Manager following transportation and economic development work for the City of Portland, Oregon. Known for her energy and commitment to good government at all levels, she then served as President and CEO of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership and as Chief Operating Officer for River LA. Subsequent stints as Interim City Manager have occupied her most recently along with Board positions with Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Leadership Pasadena and Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign for Villa Esperanza Services.

Joy Forbes was recruited by NBC Universal to take on a newly created position as Vice President, Planning and Development after serving 20 years with the City of Burbank. The expertise she gained as Community Development Director, Deputy City Manager and project manager for complex city and private development projects has been the stepping stone to this challenging career transition. Her local government experience is the foundation for helping ensure consistent build out of the Universal Studios Hollywood Master Plan by working with the local community and maintaining strong relationships with government and business partners.

Seating is very limited and expected to sell out quickly- early registration is encouraged.
