Workshop: Ready, Set -- But how do I fund my Business Start-Up? 

Ready, Set -- But How do I fund my Business Start-Up:  This Northwest Indiana SCORE workshop is designed for current and prospective business owners, especially those looking to fund a business expansion or a new business venture.  This one-hour information-packed workshop will focus on the essentials and methods of qualifying for business financing.

Among the topics to be covered are:

  • Possible sources of business funding
  • What lenders look for in a loan applicant (the “Five C’s of Credit”)
  • What a credit score is and why it matters
  • What’s included in a loan application, including the importance of a Business Plan and cash flow projections and assumptions, AND
  • Avoiding predatory lending practices

This workshop will be held on March 28th, 2018 at 9:00 am at the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce.  There is no charge for this workshop and attendees will receive a copy of the slide presentation. Coffee will be served. Limited seating is available and registrations are required.  To register, click on the link below.

There will be an optional and informal networking session starting at 10:00 am after the presentation concludes.  Here you can ask questions specific to your business and brainstorm ideas with the speakers and other attendees.

PRESENTERS:

Sharon K. Harvey

Mrs. Harvey is Economic Development Specialist for the U.S. Small Business Administration, Indiana District Office.  She has been with the SBA for 10 years.  As an EDS, she talks to small business owners and individuals in all 92 counties throughout Indiana educating them on the products and services offered by the SBA. 

 

Katie Westlund

Ms. Westlund is a Community Lender at Accion, a nonprofit microlender serving Northwest Indiana and Illinois. She graduated from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with bachelor’s degrees in Economic Consulting and International Business.  As a native and current resident of Northwest Indiana, she is dedicated to facilitating economic growth and job creation in the region by empowering entrepreneurs to find the capital, coaching, and connections they need.
