Human Resources: Attract, Retain, and Develop Your Most Important Asset, Your Employees

Who should attend?
Startup and small business executives who want to best attract, develop and retain people through sound human resources practices.

Overview

Many small business executives may not always focus on how to recruit and keep the talent they need to start or grow the business. This workshop will help you understand what it takes to engage others to perform work, and the important practices involved in managing employees.

It will address issues such as defining human resource management, best hiring practices, communicating expectations, receiving/giving feedback, documenting performance, maintaining employee records and creating an inclusive culture.

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Define human resources and the five best practices that lead to a productive workplace
  • Describe techniques and processes for hiring staff with the right skills and fit
  • Distinguish between the rules governing contract employees and those for regular employees
  • Discuss how to create a diverse and inclusive company culture
  • Summarize how to document performance by performing regular performance reviews and addressing performance issues
  • Outline guidelines for communicating work rules and expectations in accordance with NYC labor law
  • Enumerate guidelines for maintaining employee records

After the workshop, schedule a free follow-up discussion with a SCORE Mentor to get you started.
